About the Course

American Sign Language (ASL) is more than being able to spell words with your hands. It is considered a language that has similar patterns to our spoken language but has its own unique grammar pattern. In this class students will learn the basic fundamentals of ASL including the alphabet and counting. Students will learn common phrases, requests, and common conversational elements. Songs and poems may also be introduced to help reinforce classroom material. Students should expect to spend a few days a week at home practicing the skills learned in class. A lot of what is learned in ASL will build on previous lessons so it’s important that students keep up with the work. Recommended book - Barron’s E-Z American Sign Language
